App of the Week – Things

Things AppWant to be more productive? THINGS is the answer.

It’s more robust than a to-do list, yet not as complex as a project management app. Things is the task manager you need if you’ve outgrown Reminders, but aren’t quite ready for project management solutions like Basecamp.

It’s easy to get started. No need to read a manual, or attend a webinar. Soon you’ll be checking things off your list and meeting your goals.

Things Task EntryWith Things, adding a new To Do before you forget is quick and easy. You can access Things’ Quick Entry window from any application, type in your To-Do (or dictate it with Siri), save it, and get right back to what you were doing.

You can also add selected text from emails, Safari, Messages, Pages, and Finder using an Autofill shortcut. And, Things integrates with other software including Week Calendar and Reminders.

Things interfaceWhere Things shines is its flexible structure. Organize your tasks by Today, Next, Scheduled, and Someday. Then, classify them into Projects.

You can take advantage of additional tools like assigning a Due Date, sorting them by Area of Responsibility (such as Work, School, or Home), delegating them by person, and adding tags to help you search for your tasks easily. Use the Notes section to add important details and links to websites.

Things is available for Mac, iPad, and iPhone. If you store your tasks with iCloud, you can sync between your devices automatically.

Alicia used Things for years until her businesses outgrew it. The ability to simultaneously classify tasks by priority, subject, and person made it easy for her to focus on the big picture and the small details, both at the same time.

What do you use to keep track of your tasks? Let us know in the comments.

If you currently use, or have used Things in the past, tell us what you think. Leave a review on our product page.
