Texting with an 8-Year-Old

by | Sep 8, 2016

TextingMy 8-year-old daughter is learning to text. I’m teaching her appropriate use of technology. Here is the funny conversation we had this morning!

Carrie was staying home with a cough. I was dropping off her brother at school, then stopping at Safeway to pick up chicken soup, yogurt, and medicine for her.

7:44am Carrie: I’m watching you on Find My Friends**

8:02am Are you coming home yet?

8:03am ?

8:07am Hello? Are you there

8:15am Alicia Katz Pollock: I have to stop at Safeway to get ingredients for chicken and dumplings. Is there anything you want me to get for you today?

8:17am Carrie: Paula told me that that there was a key lime pie yogurt at Safeway, if you find some buy a few containers. They are the little containers

Her mom said they had them at Safeway

Alicia Katz Pollock:

You are on a Keylime kick!

Carrie:

Paula said it’s REALLY good

8:23am Did you find it

8:27am ???

8:28am Alicia Katz Pollock: When you text, you have to wait for an answer, not pester the sender

8:29am Carrie: Ok

Well, did you find it?

Alicia Katz Pollock: that is pestering

Carrie: Sorry

Alicia Katz Pollock: I’m not in that aisle yet, so be patient

8:33am Carrie: Tell me when you find it

Sorry, pestering

8:34am Alicia Katz Pollock: Go look up “pester” in your dictionary

Then tell me what it says

8:37am Carrie: It says, pester to harass or annoy

Alicia Katz Pollock: Got it?

Carrie: Got what

Alicia Katz Pollock: Understand?

Carrie: Yes

Alicia Katz Pollock: Good. Thank you.

8:40 Carrie: In the dictionary it has the periodic table

8:41 Alicia Katz Pollock: That’s cool!

And yes, I got them!

Carrie: You got the key lime pie yogurt!

Alicia Katz Pollock: Yes

Carrie:

😀 😎
